Hi. I’m Marla. Gimme a Minute. No really, I’m only going to take a minute of your time. I want to talk to you about how to find a place to write in Bellingham.
I mean, I usually write at my computer in my house. But then I’m easily distracted by chores, and the refrigerator, and the telephone, and the garden, so I started looking for a quiet, focused place to write. My friend Mattie and I used to write all over town.
In the old days, with paper and pen, before laptops. So the plan was to bring my laptop, but I vowed to leave my phone off (well, on vibrate anyway) and really hunker down and get some good writing work in. Now there are LOTS of places to write, look around, there are laptops everywhere! Lots of writing happens around a cup of coffee or tea at Woods Coffee, Supreme Bean, Starbucks, Stuarts, The Book Fair, the Colophone Café, and The Black Drop, just to name a few.
And then there are bars where you can write…the Temple Bar, Wild Buffalo, the new Fountain Café. Oh wait, there’s a sign there that says no cell phones or lap tops..well, maybe you can bring a pad of paper and a pen.
Anyway you look at it, there are lots of places to write where the laundry, kids and dinner prep aren’t calling.
I’m Marla. Thanks for listening. See ya!
