Hi. I’m Marla. Gimme a Minute. No really, I’m only going to take
a minute . I want to talk to you about Independence Day.
Red White and Blue. Stars and Stripes. John Phillips Souza. Hot Dogs. America’s birthday.
We’re lucky to live in a country where the only punishment we get for complaining about the government is that might get audited by the IRS or be flagged and searched when crossing border at Canada.
I was in Hawaii a few years ago and visited Pearl Harbor. We were
instructed that we were to be respectful of the area, because so many
people lost their lives there. It was quite somber. When we returned
to land, I found myself in a souvenir store for the pearl harbor
Suddenly, heads turned toward the door, and two unassuming older men, cute, charming and in casual clothes with “pearl harbor survivor” hats on, entered. They passed through the store and I noticed two of the sales clerks touch the mens’ arms. These women told me that their survival was a miracle, and they touched them for good luck.
I know July 4 is not memorial day, but I choose to honor those who
stand up for us and protect our freedom every day. Not only our armed forces, but our firefighters, policemen, sanitary workers,
legislators, teachers. Everyone who helps to make and keep this
country a great place to live. Have a great July 4, and remember to
thank someone for your freedom today.
I’m Marla. Thanks for listening. See ya!
